Summer in the Dolomites

Simply set off on a hike or bike ride and in only a few moments you will find yourself at the heart of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage site of the Dolomites. The long name of the Fanes Sennes Braies nature park almost says it all – in our surrounding area there is a seemingly endless number of possibilities, with hikes to suit all tastes and at every level of difficulty. It can be an easy hike on a pass or to a lake. On a mountain tour to a summit, you can cover over 1000 metres of elevation gain. Experienced mountaineers and climbers will also find a multitude of rewarding destinations here.

All varieties of cycling are a delight in our mountains, with mountain biking with or without an electric motor, racing bike routes, and downhill and freeride trails too. There are 18 trails in the Plan de Corones Bike Park alone, not to mention the countless rides in the valley, many of which are leisurely and romantic!

San Vigilio’s home mountain

I adore the beauty of these crags so much, but you more!

Piz da Peres

As our home mountain, not only is it an outstanding point in the Dolomite landscape, but also your direct access to unforgettable adventures in nature. Hikers’ paradise directly outside the door, so to speak, with something to suit all tastes – a trip along the new via ferrata or in somewhat more leisurely fashion through dense forests and meadows along the ridges on the summit. The fantastic all-around panoramic views will fill you with a feeling of lightness. In winter, Piz da Peres is transformed into a wonderland for snowshoers and back-country skiers.

Walking and enjoying nature at the same time – my kind of holiday!

Hint for an easy hike

I just love this panorama!

Corones or Via Artis circular trail

It’s just enough to be considered easy – the circular trail on Plan de Corones is approx. 6 km long and, in addition to the wonderful panoramic view of the Dolomites and the Alps, offers many places to stop for a snack and a drink. Then there are also six artworks here. They are made from spoilt timber, the result of storm damage and the weight of snow. If there aren’t enough highlights already, we recommend the giant “Skyscraper” swing. The circular trail is best walked in the summer months (July to September), as otherwise there may be snow on the path.

... But animals don’t really get involved in politics here, right?

Legendary Dolomites world

I almost feel as though I am on a different planet here!

Parliament of marmots

So called because it looks like an amphitheatre built by nature from stratified dolomite. The Fanes Sennes Braies Nature Park is, however, actually home to many marmots, which is why it is highly likely that one will cross your path or you will be able to hear one whistling from the distance. First head up to the Pederü Hut, then steeply uphill and onwards through a high valley filled with mountain pines to the Lavarella and Fanes Huts. Not far from the parliament is the yellowy-green shimmering Limo Lake. It is well worth a detour!

Once around and then back to the stoa!

The Plan de Corones circuit

Step outside the door and jump straight into the saddle – this is how biking ought to be on holiday! The Plan de Corones circuit is approx. 50 km long and – as the name suggests – leads you once around the famous leisure mountain, which in winter is probably the most popular ski resort in South Tyrol. You can ride this circuit either clockwise or anticlockwise. In the latter case, head first for the Passo Furcia, then on the other side you can enjoy a breeze as far as Valdaora. Enjoy the view of the historic Castel Lamberto before heading for Riscone and from there to San Lorenzo di Sebato. Finally, pedal to San Martino and Maria Saalen, before returning to the stoa – hopefully just in time for your Light Dinner.

Bike Park Skills Park Cir

Are you real bike enthusiasts? Then a trip to the Skills Park Cir will definitely be worth your while! It is more than just preparation for the mountain trails in Val Badia, as this facility is a well-thought-out practice zone with a variety of obstacles. Beginners and children as well as advanced riders can test their skills and learn something new here. It is located by the mountain station of the Piz de Plaies gondola and offers a wonderful view of our picturesque mountain village of San Vigilio from above.
